What we do
We are not style centric. We welcome adult beginners and children over the age of 8 years or those wishing to come back to training after having had a break and regardless of background knowledge. We are all striving to be the best that we can be, which is a very personal endeavor and one that Sensei Johnston and his team of instructors can help you work towards. Don't be shy about popping along to try a class,

Saturday
This class is for students who already have experience and are wanting to test and explore their art. We welcome all styles. Students are encouraged to think outside the box to develop and hone their skills to be able to transcend to the next level. Very open and friendly here.

form follows function
Our Karate is and should remain functional at all times. We educate ourselves in the simple and effective execution of application and technique. The simple tends to be the most effective! This idea derives from the study of both drills and bunkai, adapted from Kata which are pressure tested without compliance in a safe environment to ensure maximum practicality.
We adopt functionality in Kata by taking away empty gestures for the sake of aesthetics, which are more relevant to competition Karate. We believe a student should leave the Dojo knowing that his/her techniques are effective. This requires the understanding and utilisation of good body mechanics for power generation, which is a principle we hold dear
For these reasons we believe "Form follows function" - practicality over aesthetics.
